State Tournament Summary

Senior midfielder Paul Yonga probably established a tournament record and caught nearly everyone in attendance by surprise, especially opposing senior goalkeeper Andrew Nelson. What did Yonga do? He blasted the opening kickoff 55 yards, over the head of Nelson who was playing way out, and into the back of the net. Time expired: three seconds. Score: Totino-Grace 1, Simley 0. That score held through the first half. Simley (18-2-5) tied the game at 61:24 in the second half on a crossing pass to the far post by senior forward Ben Royce, and after a scramble in front senior midfielder Jack Kessler put it in the net. There was no scoring thereafter and according to League rules for third-place games, both Totino-Grace (18-4-1), the No. 1 seed, and Simley, the No. 2 seed, will share third place and the associated hardware.
