The St. Paul Johnson Governors hit six free throws in the final 20 seconds and went on to defeat the Austin Packers 71-66 in the second Class AAA quarterfinal of the day.
A three-pointer from Austin’s Zach Wessels pulled the Packers within 66-68 with seven seconds left in regulation, but a foul shot from Johnson’s Quashingm Smith-Pugh gave the Governors a 69-66 advantage. Smith-Pugh missed the second attempt, but pulled down the rebound. He added the final two points for the Governors with four seconds remaining in the game.
Four players finished in double digits for St. Paul Johnson: Marcus Marshall with 23 points and three steals; Smith-Pugh with 12 points; and Jalen Mobley and Bajuan Adams with 11 points apiece. Adams had a team-high seven rebounds for the Governors, and Darius Watson nabbed six steals. Joe Aase and Wessels tallied 25 and 14 points, respectively, for Austin. Tom Aase added a double-double for the Packers with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Tom Aase also had six blocks and two steals.
