Former longtime Edina High School Band Director Bill Webb was recognized on Thursday, June 30, 2022 with a National Citation Award for Music by the National Federation of State High School Associations. The recognition came during the NFHS Summer Meeting in San Antonio, Tex.

Webb, who began his music education career in the Spring Lake Park School District, spent nearly 30 years in the Edina School District before retiring in 2015. A former member of the Minnesota State High School League’s Board of Directors and a Class of 2019 inductee into the League’s Hall of Fame, Webb is respected across the globe for enriching the lives of students through music.

During his tenure at Edina High School, more than 4,200 of his students participated in the League’s music contests. His bands performed locally, nationally and as invited performers at international events, including performances in Singapore, Hong Kong and Beijing.

Webb has held many leadership positions, including the founding officer and past president of the Minnesota Band Directors Association.

“I am so greatly humbled by this recognition,” Webb said to well-wishers after receiving the award. “What a grateful blessing is it to have the opportunity to share the gift of music with students.”
