A year ago, history was made when a Girls Division made its debut at the Minnesota State High School League’s Clay Target State Tournament. It will continue Friday, June 21 with the League’s 2024 event held at its traditional venue, the Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake.

Twenty-five qualifiers will compete in the Girls Division and 91 qualifiers in the Open Division. Girls have the option of competing in the Open Division, which is comprised of boys’ participants, but for the second consecutive season, none chose to do so. Thirty-nine teams will compete in the team competition.

Fertile-Beltrami’s Kerra Ramsey, one of the top competitive shooters this spring, is the highest returning girls’ entrant. A year ago, she placed third with a score of 98 and a reverse run of 23. Right behind her in fourth place was Spring Grove’s Taylor Reinhardt, who also had a score of 98, but had a reverse run of 22. Mabel-Canton’s Saijal Slafter was fifth a year ago and she returns to compete this season.

In the Open Division, there was a three-way tie for the championship in 2023. Spring Lake Park’s Mason Meyer is the only one of that triad that returns.

A new team champion will emerge this season. United South Central won the crown a year ago, but will not compete on Friday. Fairmont, runner-up as a team in 2023, will compete.

If inclement weather occurs, tournament management with the Minnesota State High School League and the MN Clay Target League will determine whether the competition will be delayed or rescheduled. The Rain Date is Saturday, June 22.

Any schedule updates will be available at www.mshsl.org
