The Minnesota State High School League partners with the Minnesota Band Directors Association, the American Choral Directors Association - Minnesota and the Minnesota String and Orchestra Teachers Association to update its Large Group Contest Approved Music Lists. These discipline-specific partners help create outstanding educational experiences for students by annually evaluating these lists and facilitating the addition and by deletion of repertoire.
Their participation ensures that the League’s approved lists:
- Reflect best practices in music education.
- Inspire exploration of a broad range of repertoire that includes historically underrepresented composers.
- Engender high standards for pedagogical and musical quality.
- Are effectively organized and categorized.
Utilizing a process approved by the League's Music Advisory Committee, members of these discipline-specific professional organizations vet proposals and return their recommendations to the League. The League's Music Advisory Committee reviews these recommendations to ensure that all processes have been followed according to League guidelines and expectations. Once this is confirmed, updates are posted to the League’s website.

Having completed this major revision of the League’s previous contest lists, the ACDA-MN music review team now turns its attention to developing its process for adding new repertoire. This process will be in place for the 2025-2026 school year. No new repertoire will be added to the vocal contest lists this year.
