​​​​​​​Warroad captured consecutive Class A girls hockey championships for the first time in more than a decade with its 3-1 victory over No. 3 Orono on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Xcel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul.

Entering the 2023 Minnesota State High School League’s Girls Hockey State Tournament, Minnetonka was given the No. 1 seed in the Class AA field. Gentry Academy, dubbed with the No. 4 seed had something to say about that. The Stars staged the upset of the tournament with a 2-1 victory in overtime to topple Minnetonka in the Class AA semifinals late Friday night, Feb. 24 at the Xcel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul.

Both Big Lake (Class A) and New Prague (Class AA) returned to the championship podium after improving on their 2022 finishes.

Andover is on the threshold of a successful defense of its Class AA crown in girls hockey.

Warroad (25-3-1) will get a chance to defend its Class A Girls Hockey State Tournament championship as the Warriors punched their ticket to the 2023 title game with a 4-1 win over South St. Paul (22-6-1)  in the Tournament’s second semifinal game on Friday, Feb. 24 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Moorhead and Rosemount will play  for the Class AA Girls Hockey State Tournament consolation championship on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the TRIA Rink at Treasure Island Center in St. Paul.

An overtime goal by Maddy Kimbrel provided Orono (22-3-4) with its first ticket to the Class A Girls Hockey State Tournament championship game, as the Spartans scored a 4-3 win over Proctor-Hermantown (20-7-2) in the Tournament’s first semifinal game on Friday, Feb. 24 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Fourth-seeded Gentry Academy scored early and often in the first period en route to a decisive 7-0 win over fifth-seeded Moorhead in Thursday evening’s Class AA girls hockey state quarterfinals at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Minnetonka, the Class AA girls hockey state runner-up a year ago, opened the 2023 state tourney with a narrow 3-2 victory over Centennial/Spring Lake Park in the AA quarterfinals on Thursday night at Xcel Energy Center.

Edina (22-4-2) recorded its 12th shutout of the 2022-23 season during its 6-0 victory over Lakeville North (21-8) in the first round of the Class AA Girls Hockey State Tournament on Thursday, Feb. 23 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Mankato East and Fergus Falls advance to the Class A Girls Hockey State Consolation Finals to be played Saturday.

Andover (26-3) opened play in the 2023 Class AA Girls Hockey State Tournament on Thursday, Feb. 23 with a 9-0 victory over Rosemount (15-12-2) at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.
