Adapted Floor Hockey State Tournament -Day 2 Recap

The Minnesota State High School League’s Adapted Floor Hockey State Tournament completed its two-day event on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Bloomington Jefferson High School. Traditional power Dakota United captured another championship in the PI Division and New Prague/TCU/LSH/Belle Plaine/Jordan captured the state title in the CI Division.

Hancock staged a steady comeback throughout to post a 54-43 victory over Minneota in the Class A championship game of the Girls Basketball State Tournament. It is the first Class A crown for Hancock since 1997, the first year of the current four-class format.

Adapted Floor Hockey State Tournament Day 1 Recap

After a two-year hiatus because of health concerns amidst a global pandemic, the Minnesota State High School League’s Adapted Floor Hockey State Tournament resumed in earnest on Friday, March 18, 2022, at Bloomington Jefferson High School. Member schools in two divisions began quarterfinal play on Day 1 with hopes of continuing on a championship path.

The pink t-shirts were a bit striking when the girls basketball team from Hayfield High School took the court. The words on the front of the shirts read, “In memory of Macy,” with wings attached to the M and Y. On the back was one word in all caps: HOLTAN.

Class A Girls Basketball State Semifinal Hancock 71, Mayer Lutheran 40

Hancock completed the Class A championship pairing following a 71-40 victory over No. 2 Mayer Lutheran in the semifinals on Friday at Williams Arena. The Owls, seeded No. 3 in the Class A field, advance to play unseeded Minneota for the Class A crown on Saturday.

Class A Girls Basketball State Semifinal Minneota 53, Hayfield 45

The Minneota Vkings, the defending Class A champion, began the Minnesota State High School League’s Girls Basketball Tournament this week as an unseeded team in the eight-team field. With an eye on a repeat championship, and a third since 2019, Minneota upended top-seeded Mountain Iron-Buhl in the quarterfinals on Thursday. The quest continued on Friday, March 18, 2022, with a 53-45 victory over Hayfield in the semifinals at Williams Arena on the University of Minnesota campus.

Class AAAA Girls Basketball State Semifinal St. Michael-Albertville 73, Roseville 57

St. Michael-Albertville lost three of four games to end the regular season. One of those losses was a 40-point setback to Hopkins during the end of a grueling Lake Conference schedule. While those tough battles prepared St. Michael-Albertville for the postseason, the Knights are hopeful short-term memories aren’t lingering.

Class A Girls Basketball Quarterfinal Recaps

Eight Class A-enrollment schools began their state tournament journey with quarterfinal play on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at the Maturi Pavilion on the University of Minnesota campus. Unseeded Minneota made its way to the semifinals with a quarterfinal upset win over top-seeded Mountain Iron-Buhl. The Vikings will take on another school with its nickname, Minneota. In the lower bracket semifinal, No. 2 Mayer Lutheran and No. 3 Hancock will meet after posting quarterfinal victories.
