The post-game handshakes and high-fives. Cheerleaders and super fans leading positive cheers. Runners helping an injured opponent cross the finish line. Student-organized races/games to support a cause. Participation in a conference or summit where students, coaches, directors and others learn about sportsmanship.
All are awesome acts of sportsmanship that deserve to be applauded. And, it’s what we want to see at every high school competitive event—athletics, music, drama, speech, debate, robotics and visual arts.
The Minnesota State High School League and corporate sponsor Wells Fargo are excited to sponsor this monthly social media campaign to promote sportsmanship. The Sportsmanship Challenge calls on League member schools to share stories, videos and/or photos of awesome acts of sportsmanship that take place during high school athletic and fine arts contests.
Participating schools are encouraged to submit sportsmanship entries to John Millea at [email protected] throughout the school year beginning January 8th. All entries will be reviewed and those selected will be shared via the League’s social media platforms—Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram—each month from January through June. These students will also be recognized in a special scoreboard feature during the fall, winter and spring state tournaments.
We’re counting on all member schools to promote the Sportsmanship Challenge throughout their school community and to let us know when an awesome act of sportsmanship takes place.
We appreciate your support and look forward to receiving your sportsmanship entries soon.
