Loftus, the daughter of two doctors, plans to attend Johns Hopkins University and pursue a career in Public Health.

Editor's Note: Welcome to We Are the League, a feature series that recognizes the work, dedication and enthusiasm of individuals who are essential in making opportunities within the Minnesota State High School League a truly great experience for all. During this series, you will meet an incredible array of individuals who will share their journeys through education-based activities. The League hopes you enjoy this recognition series.

My high school journey

  • At 5 years old, I tried everything. Whether it was sports or music, that was where I wanted to be. I played piano, tennis, soccer, gymnastics, really, anything that came my way. I really loved competing, but I really loved being part of a team, too. For the longest time, soccer was my sport.  As a seventh-grader in Rochester, I had to make a choice: pick soccer or tennis. I couldn't go wrong with either one of them. Rochester Mayo has such a strong tradition of success in girls tennis. The girls on the team were so supportive and nurturing, which is what drew me to tennis. Honestly, now that I have completed my career, I am so happy with that decision. As I look back, the tennis was incredible. While I was competing by myself in singles, it was important because my performance goes toward the team piece.

Favorite high school memories

  • Without a doubt, it is the state tournaments. I was fortunate to be in the state tournament many times and each trip was special. We live an hour away, but we always stay as a team. It's like a big slumber party with the team. Whether it was a team meal or relaxing at a mall, it was all of us together. Being a true team is what makes it so memorable and special.

Why I enjoy being involved with high school activities

  • Representing Rochester Mayo is such an honor, be it as an individual or a team. I just really appreciate that team piece. Years from now, we will talk about our experiences as a team and know how important they are to all of us.
