2023 Girls Lacrosse State Tournament Day 2 Recap: Edina, Benilde-St. Margaret's advance to title game

Edina, the No. 2 seed, is looking to make a statement during its first tournament appearance. The Hornets will face Benilde-St. Margaret’s in the title game. The Red Knights enter this year’s event as the No. 5 seed.
Edina and Benilde-St. Margaret’s did not meet during the regular season.
The championship game is slated for 3:30 p.m. at Stillwater Area High School on June 17.
Championship Semifinals
Edina slipped by No. 3 Stillwater Area 10-7 in the first championship semifinal. Seniors Mary Velner and Nicola Santoni each had three goals and one assist for the Hornets. Senior Elle Busby and junior Mia Maxwell added two goals apiece.
Juniors Ava Mosely and Myah Krueger paced Stillwater Area’s offense with two goals each. Mosely also added an assist.
In the second semifinal, No. 5 Benilde-St. Margaret’s upset the defending champions from Lakeville South 14-13. The Cougars were undefeated coming into this game and were also the No. 1 seed. Sophomore Charlize Vang accounted for five of the Red Knights’s goals. Maggie Kraczyk added a game-high four assists.
Junior Katie Grubbs scored four goals for Lakeville South. Juniors Sivanna O’Brien and Tori Tschida were the second-leading scorers for the Cougars. O’Brien had three goals and two assists and Tschida added three goals and one assist.
Consolation Semifinals
East Ridge notched an 11-7 victory over Champlin Park in the first consolation semifinal. Junior Keira Limpert paced the Raptors with four goals and two assists. Junior Margaret Pape added three goals.
Sophomore Lilly Osterman and senior Isabella Dols provided the majority of Elk River/Zimmerman’s offense as the Elks moved past Chanhassen 11-10. Both tallied four goals in the victory. Senior Adria Kotzian had a team-high two assists for Elk River/Zimmerman.
