Members of the Edina team work on their robot during the 2022 Robotics State Tournament.

Robots and their student-human counterparts will take to the floor at Williams Arena on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis on Saturday, May 6, for the Minnesota State High School League’s 2023 Robotics State Tournament. The event begins with qualifying rounds at 8:30 a.m., and concludes with an awards ceremony at approximately 5:45 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Greenbush-Middle River, Becker and Edina, who formed the winning alliance in 2022, all return with the hope of a repeat championship. In addition to last year, Greenbush-Middle River won in 2016 and 2018 and Becker won in 2013. Edina earned its first title last year.

This year’s competition is CHARGED UPSM presented by Haas. In the event, competing alliances bring energy to their communities by retrieving game pieces from substations and scoring them into the grid. In the final moments of each match, robots race to dock or engage with their charge station.
