2024 Girls Swimming and Diving State Meet: Class AA Swimming Preliminaries Recap

Rochester John Marshall, East Ridge, Shakopee and Brainerd all posted the fastest preliminary times in two events on Friday evening in the 2024 Girls Swimming and Diving State Tournament. Rochester John Marshall junior Julia Ogren finished at 54.07 in the 100 butterfly and 50.03 in the 100 freestyle. East Ridge sophomore Logan Havermann posted 1:02.72 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:01.54 in the 200 individual medley. 

Shakopee sophomore Lexi Tippie had the best preliminary time of 1:50.45 in the 200 freestyle. Tippie was also part of the 400 freestyle relay team that posted the fastest time of 3:30.19. Ninth-grader Genessa Sentyrz, junior Maddy Hanson and senior Arianna Zelen rounded out that squad.

Mya Tautges, a senior at Brainerd, had the best preliminary time in the 50 freestyle (22.88) and also anchored the 200 freestyle relay team. That team, which included junior Avery Duerr, sophomore Aralyn Marcelo and junior Isabelle Ploof, had the fastest time of 1:35.59 heading into the finals. 

Prior Lake senior Ivy Solt and St. Michael-Albertville senior Lily Van Heel are the only entrants looking to build on 2023 gold medal finishes. Solt won the 500 freestyle last year and posted a preliminary time of 4:57.58. Van Heel, who is in the hunt for her third consecutive crown in the 100 backstroke, had the fastest preliminary time of 54.99.

The Class AA swimming and diving finals are scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 16.
