2024 Lacrosse State Tournament: Girls Day 2 Recap

The top two seeds will square off in the title game of the Girls Lacrosse State Tournament this Saturday. No. 2 Prior Lake will meet top-seeded Lakeville South at 3:30 p.m. at Eden Prairie High School. 

This is the second time these teams have met this season. Undefeated Lakeville South won the first game 15-5.

Championship Semifinals

Prior Lake knocked off the defending champions from Benilde-St. Margaret’s 11-10 the first championship semifinal. Prior Lake junior Abby Grove tied the game 10-10 with under a minute left in regulation and then netted the game-winner 23 seconds into overtime. Grove finished the game with three goals. Sophomore Britney Pinkowski added three more goals for the Lakers.  

Sophomore Yun Vang and senior Julia Evens paced Benilde-St. Margarets’ offense with two goals each. 

In the second semifinal, Lakeville South defeated Stillwater Area 17-8. Senior Tori Tschida paced the Cougars with 10 points on four goals and six assists. Junior Ella Mills struck for another four goals.

Tschida’s six assists also set a new tournament record for most assists in a single game. Several players were tied for the previous record with five assists. 

Senior Lydia Glass and ninth-grader Jacklyn Richert tallied two goals apiece for Stillwater Area. Glass also had a team-high two assists. 

This was the second time that Lakeville South bested Stillwater Area this season. The Cougars won 16-4 in mid-May. 

Consolation Semifinals

Elk River/Zimmerman notched a 13-8 victory over Andover in the first consolation semifinal. Junior Lilly Osterman and sophomore Emily Brummer paced the Elks with four goals and two assists apiece. 

Sophomore Lilly Palm provided the majority of Minnetonka’s offense as the Skippers moved past Cretin-Derham Hal 10-6. Palm tallied five goals in the victory. Senior Jordan Helling had a team-high four assists for Minnetonka.
