2024 Track and Field State Meet: Day 2 Recap

Day 2 of the Minnesota State High School League’s Track and Field State Meet was held on Friday, June 7 at St. Michael-Albertville High School. Class A concluded its two days of competition while Class AA began their competition. Saturday’s final day of competition features Class AAA and AA wrapping up their meets. 

Here is a look at some highlights from Day 2: 

  • Hutchinson senior Isabelle Schmitz broke away late from Monticello sophomore Isabel Mahoney to not only defend her championship in the Class AA Girls 32,000-meter run but also do so in record fashion. Her time of 10 minutes, 24.14 seconds broke the previous Class AA record set by Albany’s Olivia Goebel in 2022. Mahoney was runner-up in 10:32.49. Fairmont junior Macy Hanson was third in 10:53.04.
  • Annandale junior Salvador Wirth improved on his second-place finish in the Class AA Boys 3,200 a year ago with a title this season. He finished in a time of 9:34.06.54. Pequot Lakes senior Eli Hall, who set the pace throughout, was runner-up in 9:08.47. Mankato East senior Isaiah Anderson was third in 9:13.24.
  • Rockford senior Brian Schloeder won the Class AA Boys pole vault for the third consecutive time. 
  • Fridley senior Fadel Johnson won the Class AA Boys triple jump with a leap of 47 feet, 3.25 inches. 
  • Rocori senior Grady Minnerath won the Class AA Boys shot put with a class record toss of 59 feet, 4.5 inches. 
  • Caledonia/Spring Grove won the Class A Boys team championship with 67 points. Cotter/Hope Lutheran was runner-up with 39, while Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted was third, just a half-point behind. 
  • In the  Class A Girls team chase, Cotter/Hope Lutheran won a tight three-school race. They finished with 41 points, just one point ahead of Eden Valley-Watkins/Kimball and Bagley/Fosston, who both finished as the runners-up.
