Boys Swimming and Diving 2025: Key things to know

Breck/Blake (Class A) returns as the eight-time defending champion at the 2025 Boys Swimming and Diving State Meet. Edina will defend its crown in Class AA.
This year’s state meet is scheduled for March 6-8 at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis. Diving preliminaries are on Thursday followed by the swimming preliminaries on Friday. Championships will be held on Saturday.
Here is a snapshot of the Class A meet:
- Senior Henry Webb of Breck/Blake is looking for his third consecutive title in the 200 freestyle. He boasts this year’s fastest qualifying time of 1:38.10.
- Breck/Blake will also defend its title in all three relays. St. Thomas Academy has the best qualifying time of 1:34.98 in the 200 medley relay. Northfield has the fastest qualifying time in both the 200 freestyle relay (1:27.16) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:13.85).
- Mankato East junior Elliot Bartell is looking for more gold in the 100 butterfly with the fastest qualifying time of 50.20.
- Kylar Kavanagh, a junior from Alexandria Area, will defend his crown 1-meter diving.
- Northfield junior Josh Kraby is the final defending champion; he returns in the 100 backstroke. Austin junior Brent Dahl owns the best qualifying time of 50.30.
Here is a look at the Class AA meet:
- St. Cloud Tech junior Micah Davis is in the hunt for his third title in both the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Davis also has the fastest qualifying time in each race; he came in at 1:38.15 in the freestyle and 47.79 in the butterfly.
- Rosemount senior Lucas Gerten is looking for his fourth consecutive title in 1-meter diving. In 2024, he set an all-time state meet record with a score of 539.60.
- Minnetonka junior Evan Witte is looking for his third title in the 100 freestyle. He has this year’s best qualifying time of 45.44.
- The Minnetonka Skippers are also defending their title in the 400 freestyle relay. They enter this year’s event with the fastest qualifying time of 3:06.44.
- Jiarui Xue, a senior from Edina, returns in the 500 freestyle with the fastest qualifying time of 4:30.76. If Xue wins, it will be is third consecutive title in this event.
- Prior Lake/Jordan senior Ethan Kosin (100 backstroke) and Waconia senior Jack Hackler (100 breaststroke) are the final defending champions. Kosin has the best qualifying time in the backstroke (48.51) and Chaska/Chanhassen senior Isidore Warain has the fastest qualifying time in the breaststroke (55.90).
- Prior Lake/Jordan returns as the defending champion in the 200 medley relay with the best qualifying time of 1:32.85.
- Edina is the final defending relay champion. The Hornets claimed the top spot in the 200 freestyle relay in 2024, but Minnetonka owns this year’s fastest qualifying time of 1:24.77
