Boys Swimming and Diving 2025: Northfield captures fastest time in four events in Class A prelims

The Northfield Raiders took the lead in four events during the Class A swimming preliminaries at the 2025 Boys Swimming and Diving State Meet. 

Junior Will Redetzke and senior Josh Kraby led the way for Northfield. Kraby, who is looking for his second consecutive title in the 100 backstroke, had the fastest preliminary time of 51.42 in that event. Kraby also anchored the 400 freestyle team that posted the best preliminary time of 3:14.09

Redetzke had the top time in the 500 freestyle (4:40.89) and also swam on the fastest 200 freestyle (1:27.29) and 400 freestyle relay teams.

Seniors Peyton Truman and Nick Scheglowski and sophomore Odin Bergs rounded out the 200 team, while Scheglowski and junior Will Udelhofen completed the 400 team. 

St. Thomas Academy posted the fastest time in three preliminary events. Junior Luke Mechtel had the best time in the 50 freestyle (20.93) and the 100 breaststroke (56.00). He also swam on the top team in the 200 medley relay (1:34.27). Seniors Sherman Holmstadt and Dane Dow and junior Kaden Greeley completed that squad. 

Henry Webb, a senior from Breck/Blake, is in the hunt for his third consecutive gold medal in the 200 freestyle. He earned the top spot going into the finals with a time of 1:35.76. That time was also a Class A state meet record. 

Webb also had the fastest time in the 100 freestyle. He finished that race in 45.04. 

Mankato East junior Elliot Bartell is the only other individual competitor looking for additional gold. He had the fastest preliminary time of 49.15 in the 100 butterfly.

The Class A swimming and diving finals will be held at noon on Saturday, March 8.
