The Hutchinson Tigers took the lead in four events during the Class A swimming preliminaries.
Seniors Hailey Farrell and Grace Hanson led the way for Hutchinson. Farrell turned in a time of 2:04.47 in the 200 individual medley and Hanson completed the 50 freestyle in 22.82. Hanson also took the top spot in the 100 freestyle in 50.32. Both won those three events, respectively, at the 2019 state meet.
Farrell and Hanson also swam on the qualifying 400 freestyle relay team. The Tigers took the top spot in 3:33.17 with seniors Jaiden Mezera and Kasidy Brecht rounding out their squad.
Emma Kern, a junior from Delano, is looking to add to her gold medal count in the 100 backstroke. She earned the top spot going into the finals with a Class A record-setting time 53.40. Kern also had the best preliminary time in the 100 butterfly (54.42) and will team up with sophomore Hannah Wadholm, freshman Josie Strobl and eighth-grader Kaia Georges in the 200 freestyle relay. That foursome earned the fastest prelim time of 1:36.59.
Visitation is the only other relay team looking to repeat on a 2019 title. Seniors Libby Fischer and Olivia Johanns, junior Anna Farley and freshman Katie Miller had the best time of 1:46.56 in the preliminaries.
The Class A swimming and diving finals will be held at noon on Saturday, November 20.
