The 2025 One Act Play State Festival is Thursday and Friday at O’Shaughnessy Auditorium on the campus of St. Catherine University in St. Paul. Class A productions will be staged Thursday and Class AA schools will perform Friday, beginning at 9:15 a.m. both days.
Last year’s paid attendance of 1,386 was the festival’s highest since 2009. Here are five things to know about this year's festival:
-
Both classifications have multiple returning qualifiers from 2024: Belle Plaine and Bagley in Class A and Park, St. Michael-Albertville and Sartell in Class AA.
-
Belle Plaine, Park and Sartell were among last year’s “starred performances.”
-
A “starred performance” Thursday would give Belle Plaine the outright state record. The school’s total of 19 – including seven consecutive – is tied with Eagan for the most all-time. It's tied for second with Eagan and Anoka with 21 festival appearances (Park Rapids Area's 30 is the record).
-
Class AA’s Mound Westonka is making its first festival appearance. St. Louis Park and Class A’s Marshall School, Duluth return for the first time since 1987 and 1991, respectively.
- NSPN.tv will live stream the awards ceremonies each day. The complimentary broadcast is expected to begin at approximately 5 p.m. and will include prerecorded highlights from the festival.
