New Prague's Ava Bruegger and Hailey Proshek, the 2025 Class AA Girls Gymnastics all-around gold and silver medalists.
New Prague senior Ava Bruegger has fond memories of an admirer during her youth gymnastics days.
Hailey Proshek was "in second grade just being little and looking up to me," Bruegger said. "She was so awesome. She'd do everything I did."
Saturday night at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in downtown St. Paul, Proshek — now a New Prague freshman — did her best Bruegger impression once again in the Class AA Individual and All-Around Championships at the Minnesota State High School League's Girls Gymnastics State Meet.
Bruegger and Proshek both posted all-around scores of 37.575, with the senior Bruegger awarded the all-around gold medal thanks to a tie-breaking procedure score of 37.65 while the freshman Proshek took silver with 37.5625 in the tie-breaking procedure.
As they embraced atop the podium one more time as teammates, Bruegger told Proshek "We did it. We did this. This is what we worked hard for.
"This is like a dream come true. I can't believe it."

The all-around announcement during the awards ceremony was a surprise to Bruegger, who also earned gold in floor exercise with a score of 9.6 but fell on the balance beam, her final event of the night. The slip that left her upset was quickly forgotten as she was reminded of a lesson that gymnastics often provides.
"Everyone has their hiccups," Bruegger said. "But I feel like I worked really hard for this moment and it actually paid off today."
Proshek earned a gold medal of her own with an uneven bars score of 9.575.
"She has a big journey ahead of her," Bruegger said. "She's an awesome gymnast. I'm so proud of how far she's come."
Owatonna freshman Cordelia Neumann followed up Friday's Team Championships state title with an individual gold by posting a 9.475 score in balance beam.
Waconia senior Kaia Baurevoa was the vault gold medalist with a score of 9.825.
