Girls Gymnastics: Big Lake, New Prague capture team titles

Both Big Lake (Class A) and New Prague (Class AA) returned to the championship podium after improving on their 2022 finishes. Big Lake earned its third crown and first since 2020. New Prague captured its fourth title, but first since 2013.
Class A
In the Class A event, Big Lake improved on last year’s third-place showing to claim its third title under this name. The Hornets, who won their previous championships in 2000 and 2020, finished with a score of 147.650. Big Lake also won a team title in 1999 as a co-op with Owen Home School.
This year, Big Lake won both the balance beam (37.050) and the floor exercise (37.725).
Detroit Lakes placed second in the team scoring (146.150). The Lakers earned the highest mark on the uneven bars (36.150) and tied with Mankato West on the vault (37.500). Mankato West placed third overall with a score of 143.375.
Brittney Krumrei led Big Lake in all four events. She had a 9.550 on the vault and a 9.475 on the uneven bars. She posted a 9.325 on the balance beam and rounded out her scoring with a 9.625 in the floor exercise.
Class AA
The New Prague Trojans went home with their fourth team championship, but first since 2013. The victory was an improvement on last year’s runner-up finish. The Trojans, who earned top honors on the uneven bars (36.775) and vault (37.600), finished with a final score of 146.400. New Prague won its previous titles in 1984, 2001, 2003 and 2013.
St. Cloud claimed second place with 146.275 points. The Crush placed first in the floor exercise (36.950) and balance beam (36.950).
Owatonna finished in third place with a score of 144.275
Ava Bruegger led New Prague on the floor (9.475) and balance beam (9.325). She also tied with Jadyn Klein on the uneven bars (9.275). Susie Dalsin paced the Trojans on the vault, posting a 9.525.
