Orono 3 Willmar 1 Boys Soccer Class AAA Semifinal

Top-seeded Orono earned a spot in the Class AA championship game with a 3-1 victory over No. 4 Willmar in the boys soccer state tournament semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at U.S. Bank Stadium. Senior Andrew DeWitt, junior Franklin Schwendimann and senior Callahan Ehlan The Spartans (19-1-1) cruised to a 3-0 lead en route to a place in a championship game for the first time since winning the Class A crown in 2015. 

Willmar (18-1-2) pulled to within 3-1 in the 70^th minute on a one-time shot by senior forward Jairon Martinez Coto after teammate Abdullahi Mohamud, a senior forward, dribbled past three Orono defenders. The Cardinals increased the offensive pressure in the final 10 minutes of regulation, but the Spartans did not yield any further scoring.
