The semifinal field has been set for the 2022 Boys Lacrosse State Tournament. No. 3 Prior Lake will face unseeded Centennial and No. 4 Stillwater Area will match up against No. 1 Benilde-St. Margaret’s.

Prior Lake claimed runner-up honors at the 2021 state tournament. The Lakers and Cougars did not meet in this year’s regular season.

Benilde-St. Margaret’s is hoping to claim its second consecutive title while Stillwater Area is looking to improve on last year’s fourth-place showing. These teams did not meet during the regular season this year.

In the first quarterfinal of the day, No. 3 Prior Lake defeated Farmington 10-7. The Lakers came out strong, leading 5-1 at the end quarter. But the Tigers regrouped and each team scored five goals in the second quarter, leading to a 10-6 Prior Lake advantage at the break. The teams traded goals in the third quarter, but a late fourth quarter surge gave the Lakers their final advantage. Prior Lake senior Dalton Spratt finished the game with four goals and sophomore Max Anderson added four goals and two assists.

The unseeded Centennial Cougars upset the No. 2-seeded Chanhassen Storm 10-8 in the second game. Senior Noah Berger paced Centennial with three goals and sophomore Brol Scherman added three points on two goals and an assist. Sophomore Logan Adams and seniors Sammy Rodriguez and Matthew Everson also struck for two goals apiece for the Cougars.

No. 4 Stillwater Area made short work of No. 5 Woodbury in the third quarterfinal. The Ponies defeated the Royals 16-4 behind five goals and three assists from senior Aidan Anderson. Senior Carter Bies added two goals and two assists for the Stillwater Area. Senior Samuel Ness was the second-leading scorer for Stillwater Area; he finished the game with three goals.

Top-seeded Benilde-St. Margaret’s dismissed Moorhead with a 19-4 victory in the final game of the day. Junior Carsen Brandt was the top point-scorer for the Red Knights; he tallied six points on four goals and two assists. Senior Cam Gelling and freshmen Dylan Popehn struck for three goals apiece for Benilde-St. Margaret’s.
