Top-seeded Southwest Christian’s first trip to the boys soccer state tournament continues to be a memorable one following a 1-0 victory over No. 5 Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa in the Class A semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at U.S. Bank Stadium. Senior forward Jon Brain broke a scoreless tie at the half with a goal in the 49th minute to spur the Stars (15-3-3) into Saturday’s Class A championship game against either Rochester Lourdes or St. Paul Humboldt.
Junior forward Luke Kamm engineered the game’s lone scoring play when he possessed the ball into the penalty area. After his shot hit the post, Brain followed with the rebound that sailed past Wildcats junior goalkeeper Jason Ryan. He finished with five saves for the Wildcats (17-1-2) while Stars senior goalkeeper Adam Tebs made six in the evenly-played game.
