Alexandria Area capped a magical postseason following a victory over Marshall in the Class AAA Girls Volleyball State Championship on Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Xcel Energy Center.

Day 3 of the Minnesota State High School League's Football State Tournament quarterfinals was played on Saturday, Nov. 9 at many sites throughout Greater Minnesota.

Top-seeded Mayer Lutheran recorded a three-set victory over No. 2 Minneota to capture the Class A Girls Volleyball State Championship on Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Xcel Energy Center.

Day 2 of the Minnesota State High School League's Football State Tournament quarterfinals was played on Friday, Nov. 8 at many sites throughout Greater Minnesota.

Championship Saturday is set following the completion of semifinal matches in three enrollment matches on Friday, Nov. 8 at the Minnesota State High School League's Volleyball State Tournament at the Xcel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul.

Mayer Lutheran came in as the top-seeded team and Minneota is the No. 2 seed. They both won in the quarterfinals by 3-0 scores and in the semifinals by 3-1, and they will decide the state title Saturday.

Lisa Eng-Sarne, a graduate of North High School in North St. Paul, is one of six roller derby team members featured in the sports documentary “Minnesota Mean.” Released in July, the film takes viewers into the rough and tumble world of roller derby and reveals the grit and determination players need to navigate the sport while following their personal dreams.

Day 1 of the Football State Tournament Quarterfinals featured thirteen games.

The state championship match was set in one enrollment classification while two more started state tournament play with quarterfinal matches Thursday as the Minnesota State High School League’s Girls Volleyball State Tournament.

From her first time at a state tournament when she was a ninth-grader at Marshall in the late 1970s, Alexandria volleyball coach Mary Byrne has seen it all as a player and coach.

Opening day of the Girls Volleyball State Tournament featured quarterfinal matches in Class AAAA and Class AAA.
