Board of Directors convene for in-person workshop

SPICER, Minn. --- For the first time since 2019, the Minnesota State High School League’s Board of Directors will meet in its annual in-person workshop session today and Tuesday, Aug. 3 at the Little Crow Conference Center. During the restrictions of the global pandemic in 2020, the League’s Board of Directors met in a virtual setting to engage in planning for the 2020-21 school year.
Meeting in an extended workshop session is a typical practice for the League’s Board of Directors in preparation for the school year and its first board meeting. The Board of Directors meeting is planned for Tuesday at approximately 1 p.m.
Workshop topics include, but are not limited to: The League’s Mission and Beliefs, establishing the League’s Strategic Directions for the year, the League’s ongoing practices and procedures and the League’s budget for the coming school year and beyond.
Incoming board members that will begin four years of service are: Suzy Guthmueller, Centennial, MSBA; Jeanna Lilleberg, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City, MSBA; Don Peschel, Brandon-Evansville, MASA; Lisa Quednow, Austin, Regions 1-2AA; Dave Rocheleau, Pierz, Regions 5-6A; Teri Staloch, Prior Lake-Savage, MASA.
“Today, the Minnesota State High School League Board of Directors, under the guidance and leadership of Executive Director Erich Martens and League Staff members, will meet in an in-person workshop that signals the beginning of the upcoming 2021-2022 school year,” said Board President Tom Jerome, superintendent of the Roseau school district. “The gathering will be the first meeting for incoming board members. We are thankful for the time and commitment of all board members and League Staff and look forward to serving the member schools, students and communities throughout the State of Minnesota that make up the Minnesota State High School League.”
Among the Action Items during the Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday will be the approval of select fall tournaments. Discussion of the coming school year is expected to take place with a focus on the COVID situation, the League’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee and other important initiatives.
