Stewartville is playing like it has no intention of ending this season without a successful title defense.

The Tigers racked up their 27th consecutive victory over the past two seasons, the latest a 33-20 win over Albany in the Class AAA semifinals of the Minnesota State High School League’s Football State Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 16 at U.S. Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis. Senior wide receiver Parker Wangen, a Minnesota State (Mankato) recruit, had nine receptions for 152 yards and two touchdowns in helping to send the Tigers (13-0) into the Class AAA championship game for the second consecutive season. He also rushed for 15 yards and scored a touchdown on the run.

Wangen, also a standout basketball player, has 68 receptions this season for 1,126 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also has seven rushing touchdowns.

Stewartville, known for a suffocating defense, gave up a single-game high 20 points to an opponent this season. The Tigers have shutout seven opponents this season and only given up single digits in 10 of its 12 games.

Albany (11-1) held a brief 7-6 lead early when senior running back Ethan Meyer was the recipient of a perfect pass from senior Boone Roemeling in the first quarter. Roemeling completed 24 of 31 passes for 229 yards and three touchdowns.
