In the 2024 Class A Girls Swimming and Diving State Meet, Orono improved on last year’s runner-up showing to earn its first team title with 259 points. The Spartans banished Visitation, the 10-time defending champions, not including 2020 when no state meet was held, to a second place showing. Visitation finished with 234 points and Monticello was third at 230.
Orono won only one event on its way to the championship. Junior Graycin Andreen won the 200 freestyle in 1:50.85.
Monticello, led by sophomore Adalynn Biegler, won four events in the Class A finals. Biegler claimed her third consecutive crown in both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle with times of 22.38 and 49.20, respectively. Both times were Class A and All-Time records.
Monticello also earned the top spot in the 200 medley relay (1:47.51) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:36.75) with Biegler as the first swimmer on each team. Juniors Camdyn Branson and Ella Vagle and sophomore Scarlet Urick rounded out the medley team, while Vagle, sophomore Elsie Farnsworth and senior Adrienne Yender completed the freestyle team.
Two additional competitors were successful in defending their 2023 titles. Austin senior Alayna Kennedy claimed her second title in 1-meter diving (444.80) and Visitation senior Katie Miller won her second in the 500 freestyle (5:02.64).
Visitation won a second event when senior Maggie Farley turned in a time of 55.82 in the 100 butterfly.
