2024 Golf State Tournament: Day 1 Recap

Some logjams atop the leaderboards occurred after Day 1 of the Minnesota State High School League’s Golf State Tournament played at three venues. The final round is scheduled for Wednesday.
Here is a look at those leaderboards from each of the three enrollment classes:
Class A
- Boys --- Lakeview junior Carson Boe, the highest returning finisher from the 2023 Class A tournament, fired a first-round 68 at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker. Boe, third a year ago, holds a three-stroke lead over Walker-Hackensack-Akeley junior Parker Brock. Martin County West senior Hunter Schmidt is four strokes off the pace in third.
- Girls --- Border West junior Paige Beyer had a first-round 76, good for a two-stroke lead over Fillmore Central junior Myleigh Scheevel. It is a three-way tie for third at 80 by BOLD senior Kenna Henriksen, Border West senior Aspen Beyer and Dawson-Boyd junior Lindsey Lund.
Class AA
- Boys --- Hawley senior Jack Justesen and Rochester Lourdes junior Colton Rich are the early leaders after each had an opening-round 70 at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan. Holy Family Catholic junior PJ Herron is close behind with a 71. Behind him is a group of three at 72: Defending Class AA champion Carter White, a junior from Staples-Motley; Marshall junior Luke Ehlers and Totino-Grace sophomore Collin Ramos.
- Girls --- International Falls senior Kelby Anderson and Holy Angels eighth-grader Elizabeth Fong sit atop the leaderboard with 74s. Hawley junior Sophie Cook is three strokes back in third. A four-way tie for fourth-place exists at 78: Redwood Valley senior Mila Jenniges; Lake City senior Jordana Windhorst Knudsen; Bryon senior Calie Dockter and Albany senior Sophia Anderson.
Class AAA
- Boys --- Edina junior Torger Ohe leads three golfers that recorded scores below 70 in the first round at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids. He had a 67, one stroke better than Cretin-Derham Hall junior Sam Udovich. Centennial sophomore Cooper Daikawa is third at 69. Maple Grove junior Davis Tripp and Mahtomedi junior Jacob Wilson are tied for fourth at 70.
- Girls --- Owatonna sophomore Carmen Jirele fired a first-round 69 and has a two-stroke lead over three players. Wayzata senior Saachi Deshmukh, Maple Grove senior Amelia Mortan and Lakeville South senior Jovie Ordal are in a three-way tie for second with 71s. Simley senior Reese McCauley, the defending Class AAA champion seeking her third crown, is tied for sixth place, five strokes back at 74.
