The Maturi Pavilion lane is painted only partially maroon. Crosby-Ironton filled in the rest in its Class AA Girls Basketball State Tournament quarterfinal victory Wednesday night at the University of Minnesota.
The second-seeded, maroon-clad Rangers (31-0) attacked the basket in transition and in their set offense, racking up 50 points in the paint in a 75-50 win over No. 7 Barnesville to reach the state semifinals for the second year in a row.
Tori Oehrlein, who earlier this season became the fastest Minnesota girl to score 4,000 career points, of course played a major role. She scored a game-high 29 points, grabbed 19 rebounds and dished six assists.
Many of the Rangers’ baskets came in transition opportunities that they created with long, pinpoint passes after Barnesville misses. Regan Juenemann had 18 points and five assists.
Barnesville is playing in its first state tournament since 2007. Abigail John and Ava Follingstad both scored 16 points for the Trojans (22-7).
Up next: Crosby-Ironton is in search of its first title-game trip against the Caledonia-Minnehaha Academy winner at Williams Arena at 8 p.m. Friday. Barnesville plays Thursday at 8 p.m. in a consolation game at Gangelhoff Center on the Concordia University campus in St. Paul.
