The ball moved, the shots fell, the pressure defense was applied. Goodhue’s repeat quest looked good Thursday morning at Maturi Pavilion on the University of Minnesota’s campus.

The top-seeded Wildcats assisted on 19 of their 28 baskets, drilled 12 of their 27 3-point attempts and swiped the ball 17 times in a 76-47 win over No. 8 Walker-Hackensack-Akeley to open the Class A quarterfinal round of the Girls Basketball State Tournament.

Goodhue (25-5) assembled a 31-16 halftime lead and continued pulling away in the second half, leading by as many as 31 points.

One of two starters back from the Wildcats’ third state championship team, Kendyl Lodermeier scored a game-high 20 points.

Walker-Hackensack-Akeley (25-5) was led by Aubrey Morrison’s 16 points.

Up next: Goodhue plays in a semifinal game at noon Friday at Williams Arena against the winner of Cromwell-Wright and West Central Area. Walker-Hackensack-Akeley heads to Concordia University in St. Paul for a 10 a.m. consolation game Friday at Gangelhoff Center.
