Logan Drevlow of Hopkins powers his way to a second consecutive Boys Nordic Skiing Pursuit State Championship on Thursday, Feb. 13 at Giants Ridge near Biwabik.
Hopkins sophomore Logan Drevlow's second Boys Pursuit championship at the Minnesota State High School League's Nordic Ski Racing State championship was in some ways more enjoyable than his first a year ago.
"It was really fun out there," Drevlow said Thursday, Feb 13 at Giants Ridge in Biwabik after compiling a combined time of 27 minutes, 59.3 seconds. That was nearly 50 seconds ahead of Bloomington Jeffer/Kennedy's Anders Westanmo, who was the runner-up.
"It was fun that it was on the real course this year and not the man-made course that we had to do last year" Drevlow added.
Drevlow built a 40-second lead with the top Freestyle Interval Start time of 13:57.3, then finished the Classic portion in 14:02.0.
Mounds Park Academy's Eddie Snider crossed first in the Classic race (14:00.4) and took third overall in 28:49.7 Edina's Jace Haerter and Wayzata's Hudson McMillan rounded out the top five.
McMillan helped lead Wayzata successfully defend its team title with 370 points, 11 in front of runner-up Ely. Charlie Gundale placed 15th for the Trojans. James Caine and Connor Viera took fourth in the Sprint Relay on Wednesday to contribute 153 points. It's the third team championship in Boys Nordic Ski Racing for Wayzata.
Mounds Park Academy (345), Minneapolis Washburn (329) and Brainerd (328) were the other top-five teams.
