Orono, the No. 2-seed in the Class A field, opened the 2022 Minnesota State High School League’s Girls Hockey State Tournament by racing past Mankato East in a 7-1 on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at the Xcel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul.
Reagan Kelley of Watertown-Mayer/Mound Westonka won her first all-around title in the Class A individual competition. Kelley's teammate, Anna Mielke, earned runner-up honors in the all-around.
The Eastview Lightning won their third consecutive Class AAA crown in the High Kick division with their performance of "Let's Naacho." St. Cloud Cathedral claimed its fifth championship in Class A and Austin earned its first in Class AA.
Taylor Schaefer of St. Cloud went home with the Class AA all-around title after winning the vault, balance beam and floor exercise. Grace Squires of White Bear Lake Area on the uneven bars.
The Watertown-Mayer/Mound Westonka Royals claimed their second consecutive team crown during the Class A team event. Mankato West placed second and Big Lake was third.
The Eastview Lightning went home with their third consecutive championship trophy in the Jazz Division. Benilde-St. Margaret's claimed its 10th Jazz title, but first since 2018.

Edina's Adam Berghult captured the individual gold medal during the Minnesota State High School League's Boys Alpine Skiing State Meet on Feb. 16, 2022 at Giants Ridge near Biwabik. Minnetonka cruised to the team title, it's third since 2017.
