A fifth berth in a Prep Bowl championship game didn’t appear to be likely for the Chatfield team in the Class AA semifinals against Barnesville on Thursday afternoon at U.S. Bank Stadium. But that all changed in a stunning turn of events.

LeRoy-Ostrander, the Section 1 champion, continued its drive for a first-ever Prep Bowl championship with a 49-0 victory over Kittson County Central in the Class Nine-Man semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 18 at U.S. Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis.

The Minnesota State High School League's football semifinals are this week with 28 teams playing in 14 games. At stake are berths in the Prep Bowl Championship Games over Thanksgiving Weekend.

Visitation in Class A, and Edina in Class AA, the last state champions in 2019, are well represented this season as the state meet returns of the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center after a one-year hiatus because of the global pandemic. Visitation, a long-time Class A power, has 27 individual qualifiers and relay teams while Edina features 16 individuals and relay teams.

Four champions were crowned at the 2021 Volleyball State Tournament on Saturday, November 13. Mayer Lutheran won in Class A and Sauk Centre won in Class AA. Marshall took the top spot in Class AAA and Wayzata claimed the inaugural title in Class AAAA.
